The Millennium Consulting Unit4 Financials Conference 2019
Hosted by Millennium Consulting and Unit4 prevero, the Unit4 Financials Conference 2019 took place at the foot of the Shard in the brand-new state of the art venue; The Science Gallery London, on Thursday 11th April.
Sponsored by Millennium’s partners Trintech – Adra, Assimil8, Avelara and Icorp, and with a turnout of over 150 attendees from around the world the event was a huge success!
The day kicked off at 9am with coffee and a healthy breakfast before moving into the Auditorium at 9.45 for an introduction from Millennium’s Consulting Director Ben Keep and CEO Phil Keet.
Chairman of the Unit4 Financials User Group Colin McKeown gave a short presentation on the benefits of joining the User Group then handed over to Unit4’s Product Director Craig Bassingthwaighte who provided one of the most anticipated and interesting presentations of the day, Unit4 Financials Version 15 and the Unit4 Roadmap.
Up next was Millennium’s Principal Consultant Phil Leaf who provided an overview of the new features that were introduced at version 14 in Unit4 Financials, Purchase Order Processing and Invoice Matching.
For the more technical minded attendees, the next presentation by William Whittle, Unit4’s Software Development Manager and Technical Architect, titled ‘How to get the best from your Finance System – Technical’ explored the changes in technical architecture for new and future versions of Unit4 Financials, and the benefits of keeping up to date with the latest technology.
Next up we had two third-party product overviews. AutoCash from Millennium Consulting, which provides Automated Bank Statement Processing for Unit4 Financials, and then Jacques Seegers from Icorp provided a presentation on Icorp’s suite of add-on solutions, focusing specifically on their complex billing solution.
After a full morning of presentations, just before breaking up for lunch, guest speaker Myles Shevlane hosted a session on The Science of Change Management, focusing on the delivery of complex finance transformation programmes including major organisational, data, technology and process change.
The lunch break was a generous 1.5 hours giving everyone a chance to network, eat their healthy scientific lunch, visit the sponsor exhibition hall and have a look around The Science Gallery’s current exhibition ‘Spare Parts’.
After a well-deserved lunch break it was straight back into the auditorium for a presentation by Avalara on one of the hottest topics of the day; Make Tax Digital! With the MTD start date being the 6th April 2019, Alan James’s presentation named Making Tax Digital and VAT Reporting with Unit4 Financials and Avalara, had the whole audience taking notes and asking questions.
“Very useful insights into Financials future and supporting partners”
Ian Payne – NEXT
“A rare opportunity to learn about a range of relevant solutions and services that would otherwise be difficult to research and source oneself, and to discuss with the suppliers directly”
Colin Mckeown – Unit4 Financials User Group Chairman
“Good event, professionally done”
Dean Smith – PRS For Music
“Very well organised event with interesting content”
Hannah Horvath – Barrett Steel
Next up was a presentation which, although it wasn’t relevant to every company attending, was still very interesting to all, entitled “IFRS Accounting Change” presented by Legerity’s IRFS Global Lead Mark Miller. Mark provided an overview of the implications of the IFRS 9, 15, 16 and 17 regulations.
Millennium Consulting’s Technical and Development Manager Jawaid Maqbool was up next on the podium with a presentation on Interfacing for Unit4 Financials, and a brand-new tool developed by Millennium Consulting called Interface Manager which gives better control of an organisation’s interfaces to the finance department.
The last presentation before the first afternoon break was by one of our long-standing sponsors of the event Trintech – Adra, whoes pre-sales consultant Suzi Cearns presented the Automated Reconciliation Software provided by Adra.
During the afternoon break refreshments were provided in the sponsor exhibition hall and it gave a last chance for everyone to collect their sponsor stickers for the Sticker Competition, and hand in their expense receipts ready for the Travel & Expenses Competition.
After the break there were three more presentations by the Unit4 and Millennium teams. First up was a session by Senior Unit4 Pre-Sales Manager Paul Correia who showcased Unit4’s latest cutting-edge BI solution prevero backed up by the prevero Managing Director Alice Allegrini and CTO Sascha Alber who were also on hand to answer any questions on Simplifying Reporting, Analytics and Planning for Unit4 Financials.
Rob Thorpe from Assimil8 was on stage next with a very interesting presentation on AI and Continuous Intelligence. Rob talked us through the Analytical Landscape and presented the futuristic BI search technology provided by the Next Generation BI tool, ThoughtSpot.
The next presentation, which by the way was subsequently voted best presentation of the day by the attendees, was on Unit4 Travel & Expenses presented by Millennium’s Ben Keep. Ben’s presentation included a live demo of the expense management process using a smartphone. For the demo Ben asked one of the audience members to randomly select a receipt from the jar of expense receipts that were donated by attendees throughout the day. The person who had donated that selected receipt was awarded with a prize of Norwegian Air flight tokens, and then the receipt was photographed by Ben on the phone and run through the OCR process to be the basis of the demo.
Last, but by no means least, was Unit4’s Commercial Director David York, whose presentation titled ‘Creating Space with Unit4 Cloud – why you should move to the cloud today’ came a very close second in the vote for best presentation. It was, of course, another very hot topic for the audience and David received many questions at the end from a number of clients’ investigating a move to the cloud.
Before the final summary by Ben Keep and Phil Keet, sticker books were picked at random and a selection of prizes were awarded to the lucky winners. Included in those prizes were tickets to the “Champagne Experience at View”. These enabled the lucky winners to join senior Millennium staff and selected VIP’s at the top of the Shard to relax after the Conference and take in the spectacular views of the sun setting over the capital with a few glasses of bubbly.
We would like to thank everyone involved in making the Unit4 Financials Conference 2019 a big success. A special thanks to; the staff at the Science Gallery and Kings College, the Millennium Staff, Consultants and Service Desk team, Unit4, Avalara, Trintech, Legerity, Assimil8, Icorp and photographer and videographer Kevin Dawson.
And we look forward to welcoming you to the Unit4 Financials Conference 2020!
